What’s cooking Prashant Kishor?

Once considered Indian politics’ poster boy, Prashant Kishor is all guns blazing against the BJP and is leaving no stone unturned in crucifying the BJP, especially over the Citizenship Amendment Act(CAA).
But who is Prashant Kishor? He was the man who was once credited for the rise of Narendra Modi led BJP to power in 2014. Prashant Kishore, who himself struggled from the roots to rise up the ladders in BJP became of its best strategists. Even Karan Thapar has once claimed that Prashant Kishore made Modi watch his infamous video with Karan Thapar more than a hundred times to groom him.

So what went wrong that he had to leave BJP? It is believed that a small feud occurred between Prashant and Amit Shah, the then party president because of which Prashant Kishor had to leave BJP. Was this a big loss to BJP, let us find out?

After leaving BJP, Kishor soon formed I-PAC, on the lines of the US lobby groups, to become one of the first kinds of political consultants for hire in India. Soon he was seen working with Nitish Kumar and brokering a deal with RJD by virtue of which BJP was kept out of power and Nitish Kumar retained power once again in Bihar. Then in 2016, he crafted another success in Punjab when the Amrinder Singh government came to power. Even in 2019 The YSR govt credits its full majority success in Andhra Pradesh to Prashant Kishor.

If that is not all, Prashant Kishor has become a source of many sore points for BJP. He was seen with Mamta Bannerji whom he has already promised to work for in the upcoming state elections.

Prashant was also seen with the AAP leadership in Delhi before he was called back by Nitish Kumar.

There have been a few unconfirmed events for which he has been credited for spoiling the game for BJP. It is said that it was on the advice of Kishor that the Shiv Sena brokered a 50-50 deal with BJP before the Maharashtra elections. After the elections, it was on the advice of Kishor again that they demanded the Chief Ministership for half the term knowing fully well that they may break away. And then Kishor brokered a deal by virtue of which The Congress Party and the NCP supported Shiv Sena to form an alternative government leaving the biggest party, the BJP out of power.

If that was not all, Kishor has been instrumental keeping BJP out of power in Jharkhand as well. He knew how to  break the vote bank of BJP, creating smaller alternatives that create a dint on the numbers of BJP, brokered a deal among JMM, INC and RJD and thus helped them come to power. JMM with less than 18% of the total votes emerged as the biggest gainer.

If that was not all, Prashant Kishor has been very vocal against CAA as well. The recent spate of violent events that we saw was not at all random. It was pre-planned and devised properly to the core. It is believed Prashant Kishor was instrumental in disrupting the stability of the nation through these protests. More so, Kishor has been very vocal against the BJP and has openly called for defying the CAA and asked the non BJP states to not implement CAA, NRC and NPR. This incidentally contradicts with the views of his current employer, Nitish Kumar of JD(U).

If Prashant Kishor is not a force to reckon with, he is certainly not a force to ignore. It seems the mastermind of Amit Shah within BJP has been fading or he is too occupied with too many things that he is not able to give his due attention to everything. Neither are people just given postings in politics. Every post is earned through hard work and struggle. Finding a replacement of Prashant Kishor within BJP is no easy task. BJP might need far more number of Prashant Kishors to tackle this one Prashant Kishor.

While some of the actions of Prashant Kishor deserves criticism, he manages to get away as he is not dependent on the votes of the public. He becomes a lethal poison for BJP especially because he has been in the party and worked his way up right to the top to become BJP’s best strategists. He might not win elections for BJP, but he will definitely cause a dint on its numbers which may reduce saffron influence even further.

Every strategy of BJP today must include Prashant Kishor. He is a bigger threat for BJP than any of its political rival. The sooner the BJP awakens to this threat, the better it is for BJP.
